This Savannah, GA homeowner contacted Lowcountry Foundation Repair when she became concerned about the moisture in her crawl space. She already had a vapor barrier in the crawl space but noticed it was not helping with the moisture problem and needed to be replaced. She scheduled an appointment with one of our inspectors.
Our inspector, Jason Ussery, suggested that she encapsulate the crawl space with CleanSpace, a seven-layer reinforced polyethylene that isolates the home from the earth and reduces humidity levels. This new vapor barrier would keep her crawl space dry and clean and wouldn't have to worry about moisture ruining her floor joists and causing saggy floors!
After three days of installation, the project was complete and the homeowner was absolutely thrilled with the results!
The owners of this Savannah, GA home noticed musty, moldy smells. They couldn’t find the problem until one day they went in the crawl space and noticed the duct work was sweating. The crawl space was damp, had a foul smell and there were signs of rats living beneath their home.
Lowcountry Foundation Repair installed a complete CleanSpace Encapsulation System to reduce the humidity and moisture in the crawl space. With the crawl space sealed off from the earth, mold would not be able to grow and the joists would not continue to rot. After two days the family living in the house noticed the air smelled better and they could breath easier.
This homeowner had a leak that flooded their kitchen. The water went through the floor and made the insulation in the crawlspace wet and fall down. The homeowner called Lowcountry Foundation to see about having the insulation removed. Our inspector noticed a moisture issue and suggested in addition to removing the insulation that the ground be covered in drainage matting, which helps prevent water from pooling in the crawlspace, allowing it to drain away from the home's foundation. This solution was sufficient for the level of moisture the crawlspace had and the homeowner was pleased with the work completed and the results.
