CrawlSpace Encapsulation Keeps Moisture Away from Macon, GA Foundation
Challenge
Rudolph C. of Macon, GA called Lowcountry Foundation Repair after his crawl space flooded in the fall of 2017. Hurricane Irma, he said, was to blame. Rudolph had a half-basement and half-crawl space. After seeing an ad on tv Rudolph became interested in putting down a vapor barrier over his crawl space.
Solution
Rain from the hurricane left a few standing puddles in the crawl space. To prevent future water damage to Rudolph’s home, Lowcountry Foundation Repair inspector, Brian Townsel designed a custom solution that would lower the relative humidity and pump out any water in the crawl space.
Brian’s system called for the installation of 1,255 sq feet of drainage matting on top of the uncovered earth, with 1,255 sq ft of 20 mil CleanSpace liner on top of the drainage matting. A SmartSump with an alarm was installed to evacuate water from the crawlspace/ basement and a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier removed moisture from the air, pumping it to the SmartSump.
An EverLast Crawl Space Door sealed the crawl space to prevent moisture from coming in through the door. One CleanSpace vent cover was used to seal an open vent. With the crawl space sealed off from the earth, Rudolph felt better about the seasonal heavy rains.
