Sinking Home on Tybee Island, GA is Lifted Back Up
Challenge
Betty M. of Tybee Island, GA called Lowcountry Foundation Repair after she and her husband were given questionable advice from a different foundation repair company, she said. Betty complained that her two-story home was cracking, sinking and felt unstable. Betty feared her home was going to collapse around her.
There were cracks in the drywall, some doors did not operate properly, the floors were uneven and the foundation piers were leaning.
Solution
Lowcountry Foundation Repair sent one of their inspectors to Betty’s home. During the inspection it was determined that the piers supporting the home were no longer provided adequate support, causing the house to settle unevenly. Consequently, the floors were sinking, cracks appeared in the drywall and the doors didn’t operate correctly.
To alleviate the problem, a custom solution was recommended to address all of the concerns and stabilize Betty’s foundation. The inspector from Lowcountry Foundation Repair recommended adding additional structural support to the subfloor via galvanized steel piers.
The piers, called SmartJacks, are made of galvanized steel and can support 60,000 lbs of weight. SmartJacks are an adjustable supplemental support pier used for sagging crawl spaces.
The inspector recommended installing three SmartJacks to provide the proper support for the home, lifting the floor, closing the cracks and helping the doors to open and close properly.
Betty agreed. She had Lowcountry Foundation Repair do the work and after one day of installation, her home was lifted back into place. Her worries evaporated from her mind.
