Does Your Savannah, GA Crawl Space Need Waterproofing?

We recently inspected this home in Savannah, GA and found water pooling in the crawl space. Water can enter the crawl space during heaving rains, and if the ground is not properly sloped, it can pool and leave your subfloor exposed to constant moisture. We all know that wood and moisture do not go well together and can result in mold growth and wood rot. In this case, installing a plastic liner won't solve your issue. 

In order to get the water out of your crawl space, the ground needs to be properly sloped, and a drainage and sump pump system should be installed, along with a vapor barrier. 

When water enters the crawl space area, it will naturally flow to the lowest point. This should be where the sump pump is located. The sump will then pump the water out of the crawl sapce to the exterior of the home. The vapor barrier is also important to seal out the ground moisture and humidity, preventing any negative effects to your subfloor and air quality in your home.
