Crawl Space Encapsulation System keeps Pests and Humidity Out
Challenge
Gary N. and his wife, of Seabrook, SC had typical maintenance done to their home to prevent pests from coming inside. During the routine maintenance, the employee went into the crawl space and noticed large amounts of moisture. The service worker recommended Gary and his wife call Lowcountry Basement Systems.
Brian Townsel, System Design Specialist, went to Gary’s house and measured the relative humidity underneath the home. Brian also measured the moisture levels in the girders and sill plates. While inspecting the crawl space, Brian saw mold everywhere. When Brian asked about other symptoms the homeowners were experiencing, Gary said his crawl space leaked in one corner.
Solution
Brian designed a custom solution that would bring the relative humidity down to safe levels, and pump out any water in the crawl space. Brian’s system called for the installation of 2,200 sq feet of drainage matting that would allow water beneath the liner to flow to a SmartSump with an alarm. On top of the drainage matting, CleanSpace 20 mil liner was installed.
Lowcountry Basement Systems removed the insulation and installed 28 SilverGlo panels around the foundation wall to insulate the crawl space. Our team also wrapped the piers with CleanSpace. A SaniDry™ CX dehumidifier was installed as well as a LawnScape outlet. An EverLast Crawl Space Door sealed the crawl space to prevent moisture from coming in through the door.
