Zion Hill Baptist Church
Challenge
The congregation of Zion Hill Baptist Church has been meeting in their sanctuary for many years. Unfortunately, the building is in a location on the property in which the land slopes down towards the structure. In the event of heavy rains, water would flow downhill and collect in the crawl space of the church. The congregation had already attempted to fix the issue with a few other contractors, but those solutions were not working. After noticing mold in a few areas of the church, structural issues, and water still in a few areas, the church sought the advice of Lowcountry Foundation Repair.
Solution
The Lowcountry Foundation Repair Inspector concluded that a CleanSpace® Encapsulation System, along with a complete drainage system, would finally allow the church to be dry and protected from moisture damage all the time. The system consisted of drainage rock, a double layer of drainage matting, drain pipe, a TripleSafe™ Sump Pump, a SaniDry™ CSB dehumidifier, vent sealing, and an EverLast™ crawl space door. SmartJacks were used to support and stabilize the floor in necessary areas.
The crawl space area is now dry even during heavy rains, and the relative humidity is maintained at or below 50% with the help of the dehumidifier. The mold can no longer produce spores and thrive in a dry encapsulated environment.
