SmartJacks Stabilize Damp Crawlspace in Woodbine, GA
Challenge
Water problems were occurring under this home in Woodbine, GA. Mold and nasty odors were permeating the home along with water collecting in certain areas. The piers in the crawlspace began to dissolve due to the moisture problems. The homeowner, Veronica R, called Lowcountry Foundation Repair to find a solution.
Solution
Lowcountry Foundation Repair started by removing the debris under the home, including the existing disheveled black plastic. SmartJacks were brought in to relevel and support the crawlspace, replacing the broken piers. Then drainage matting, a dimpled plastic sheet, was used to cover the earth to promote good drainage over the entire crawl space floor. On top of the drainage matting, CleanSpace liner was used to isolate the home from the earth. CleanSpace liner is a very durable, 20-mil plastic sheet material designed to reduce moisture, remove humidity, and reduce infiltration of pests from getting into the crawl space. The project required 2500 square feet of CleanSpace liner.
CleanSpace liner was also used to wrap the crawl space columns. The 14 crawl space vents were sealed and the crawl space door was replaced with 2 EverLast Crawl Space Doors. EverLast Crawl Space Doors are made from 1/2-inch PVC plastic so it won’t rot or rust. 2 SmartSump pumps were included in order to drain the remaining water out of the crawlspace. A SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier decreased the humidity to about 55%.
The system significantly reduced the humidity under the home and pumped away water collected from the crawl space.
