Foundation Stabilized and Encapsulated in Statesboro, GA
Challenge
Chris B. of Statesboro, GA had just purchased his “forever home”. During the home inspection process, his inspector noticed a dip in the floor. He recommended that the foundation be stabilized and encapsulated prior to any improvement or remodeling project that Chris wanted to do to the home. Chris called Lowcountry Basements Systems to fix the foundation.
Solution
The Lowcountry Foundation Repair inspector recommended stabilizing the floor with a SmartJack System comprised of 11 SmartJacks -- galvanized steel crawl space support pillars -- each capable of supporting 60,000 pounds of pressure.
To prevent the subfloor from sinking further, the inspector recommended sealing the crawl space off from the earth. Removing moisture and reducing the humidity in the crawl space with a Complete CleanSpace Encapsulation System would prevent the joists and subfloor from absorbing the moisture, weakening, and sagging.
Chris and his wife decided to move forward with the project. The Lowcountry Foundation Repair's team first removed excess debris in the crawl space, then covered the earth with Drainage Matting, and 2,182 square feet of CleanSpace liner to keep water and moisture vapor from the earth out of the crawl space. The Lowcountry Foundation Repair's team then wrapped all 17 piers in the crawl space with CleanSpace liner to prevent moisture from wicking through the concrete piers into the crawlspace.
A SaniDry Sedona, energy-star rated dehumidifier was installed in the crawl space along with a condensate pump to move the collected water to a SmartDrain, where it could be returned to the earth. All 14 crawl space vents were sealed and an EverLast Crawl Space door was installed to replace the wooden crawl space door.
The job took four days to complete.
