Moldy Crawl Space is Encapsulated in Walterboro, SC
Challenge
This Walterboro, SC homeowner was worried about mold growing in his crawl space. An inspection from Lowcountry Foundation Repair revealed evidence of microbial growth and condensation on the ductwork. The insulation pinned to the subfloor was wet and failed. Much of the insulation had fallen to the ground.
Solution
Debris in the crawl space was collected and removed, over 2,000-square-feet of the crawl space was covered with CleanSpace Drainage Matting, a dimpled plastic under sheet material to promote drainage, then covered with CleanSpace liner to isolate the home from the earth. This 20-millimeter liner is specifically designed to reduce moisture and remove humidity in crawl spaces when combined with sealing off outside air and adding dehumidification. Encapsulation with this method creates a hostile environment for mold. It also prevents wood rot and keeps pests out.
A SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier was installed to reduce the humidity in Gregg’s crawl space. SaniDry Sedona dehumidifiers are specifically designed for crawl space and basement environments. The crawl space vents were sealed to prevent warm humid air from entering the cool crawl space. A SmartDrain was installed to return the moisture back to the earth.
The project took three days to complete. The results were noticeable after a week and the homeowner was thrilled!
