Kitchen Floor in Goose Creek, SC Drops One Inch, Fixed by Lowcountry Foundation Repair
Challenge
A new dining room set weighed too much for Earl P.’s subfloor in Goose Creek, SC. His kitchen floor “broke”, he said. After bringing in his new furniture, Earl noticed the floor sunk one inch. Earl called Lowcountry Foundation Repair for a free inspection of his crawl space.
Solution
Jason Ussery of Lowcountry Foundation Repair went to Earl’s house. During their conversation, Earl told Jason the most important goal of this project would be to fix the appearance of his floor – it was his forever home and it had been since 1989.
Jason did a thorough investigation of the crawl space and examined the floors in the home.
To fix Earl’s problem and prevent further structural damage, Jason designed a custom solution to remove the standing water and stabilize the foundation. The project took three days to complete and Earl was thrilled with the results.
The first step was to remove the standing water with a pump. After we could dig, we installed 170 linear feet of drain sock pipe fitted to a SmartSump housing a high-quality Zoeller 1/3-hp cast-iron pump.
To stabilize the settling foundation, we installed three SmartJacks and a 6 ft. zinc-plated beam called a PowerBrace along multiple joists. We also replaced six joists under Earl’s home.
The project was a success and Earl was thrilled with the results!
